So, I’ve decided to join the blogging world! It’s not my first blog, and probably won’t be my last! But hopefully I will stick with this one and not give up/get bored! I am super excited to be doing this!
Few things you need/might want to know: I ramble, and I ramble A LOT! I type/write the same way I talk! Randomly and not always in complete sentences! It’s one of my “special” qualities! I am not a professional writer and I am not trying to be one! I will make spelling/grammatical errors, and I’m totally OK with that!
If your reading the title of my blog correctly, it will rhyme! (Jacque=Jackie, get it now?) I’m not literally trying to be “fat-free” I just thought it was cute! I am trying to lose weight and maintain a healthy body image (for me, and for you to see. haha) but completely rid myself of fat, well I’m not that crazy/ambitious! My name is Jacquelyn, take off the LYN and (so my mom says) makes Jacque. Trust me I don’t get it either but I’m stuck with it regardless!
The path I’ve chosen to go for weight loss is by Weight Watchers. Yes, I’m one of those people who yo-yo’s with my weight all the time! I’ve tried “this”, I’ve tried “that” and I always go back to the WW! (WW=Weight Watchers, btw! Btw=by the way, ha!) I will try my best not to bore you with all the lame details of my ups and my downs, just one quick and painless sentence! At 20 I weighted 240 pounds (height-5’5″) by 24 I dieted my way to 155 pounds, (this is gonna be one long sentence) at 25 I met Mike (the bf/boyfriend) and we dinned out way too much, drank way too much, I got too comfortable and got back up to 200 pounds. (OK, Its gonna be more than one sentence, oops!) At 28 I was diagnosed with poly-cystic ovary syndrome (google it, I really don’t know that much about it) and the only one real cure was to lose weight and keep it off. Lame! I was determined (again) and got myself down to a comfortable 160, then 6 months ago we moved to southern California (or SoCal, or Californieway) and I got lost in the cuisine and going out to eat again. And well…here I am again. Trying to lose freakin’ weight! I’ve yet to get on a scale, (tomorrow is the big weight in day) but I’m guessing its in the 180 range.
My one/main objective of this blog: Julie & Julia meets Hungry-Girl! There are links to both the movie synopsis and Hungry-Girl’s website! Basically getting through the whole Hungry-Girl cook book, with reviews by me and the bf, and blog about it.
Julie & Julia, if you’ve never seen it: a woman (Julie) blogging about her journey learning how to cook by using Julia Child’s infamous cookbook (“Mastering the Art of French Cooking”, yes I own this cookbook, its amazing!) She did one or two recipes a day and blogged about every detail. The difficulties of learning new techniques, the challenges of cooking in a small apartment kitchen. The taste of the food, the look of the food. It was a fantastic movie and critics be damned if they didn’t like it! I love food. I love Julia Child and I cannot wait to start this journey.
Hungry-Girl, if you don’t know of her, is basically just that: A hungry girl! She has a web based/email daily newsletter talking about food, “guilt free food” that is! (I think she may have that phrase trademarked) I don’t know her whole story but from what I remember she lost weight using weight watchers, and was/is determined to keep it off while still eating the foods she loves, while sharing her ideas and recipes with others! And that’s what she’s dedicated herself to doing! Her recipes aren’t exactly the most complicated or hard to accomplish (but for the most part, I have faith in my cooking ability so that’s not the main objective) but they are creative, delicious and “guilt-free”. And that, ladies and gentlemen is the objective! Eat guilt free! I’m not ashamed to admit that I love that woman and wish to be her someday! 🙂
I will attempt to take decent pictures of what I am cooking/baking, however my only camera is my camera phone. Its a 5 megapixel camera, so its decent, but I know it could be better. Please bear with me until I get a real one!
I work in a restaurant (server/waitress/servant, whatever you wanna call it) and I thoroughly enjoy my job! It has its draw backs for trying to lose weight. Like, getting free food at the end of my shift, eating the food that’s readily available (i.e. croutons, salad dressing on the croutons, pickles, breadsticks etc) getting off work late and eating dinner just a few hours before bed. But it does have its perks, like, moving and walking around for 5-6 hours a day. Carrying heavy trays and plates (using muscles I otherwise don’t use). I will try my best not to let these down falls to set me back. But do expect a little bit of bitching “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing” lol!
Besides just a little bit of what “we” (I hate people who classify them and their significant other/boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife as we, but well I just did, oops) like to eat and what “we” may be biased about, I think this may be “all the info you need to know”.
My favorite foods: Almonds, cheese, turkey (ever seen “A Christmas Story”? I’m like the dad on Thanksgiving, a turkey junkie) broccoli, asparagus, mushrooms, tortillas (I really don’t like bread, tortillas are my “go-to” sandwhich option) bananas, cheese, almonds. (oh wait, i said those already) yogurt, cheese, peanut butter (yum, peanut butter) cheese. I’m sure there’s more….I really like food!
Mike’s favorite foods: Pizza (yes he classifies pizza as a food group) ice cream, beer, diet dr. pepper (again its classified as food in his mind) fruit smoothies, milk, chocolate milk, sandwhiches, broccoli, brussel sprouts, ribs, anything with bbq sauce on it….he drinks more liquids than anyone I know! I sometimes thinks he drinks more than he eats.
Ok kids, I thinks that’s a wrap!
Look forward to a lovely installment tomorrow of my first Hungry-Girl recipe tomorrow! (oh, and a weight in, ugh I’m not looking forward to that)
